When we first started PBXL in 2006 (*1) we thought PBXL’s launch was probably late to market. There was clearly a huge need for a cloud (*2) solution focused on SMBs. Our goal was to simplify the entire provisioning process, where we provided a phone line, phone number and handset to each one of our end users, while also providing flexibility.
Eight years later, we discovered that we were probably seven years early to market, and the 2013-14 market is ready for cloud telephony. There are lots of stories to be told, but the first and foremost is that we made it this far, for which I thank our customers, our team and our partners–without you we would just be an idea…
I first had the idea for PBXL in 2004, when at the conclusion of a large cost reduction project for a client they purchased a PBX for 25,000,000 yen for their business continuity center. While the center was designed to hold several hundred staff members, this 25,000,000 yen piece of equipment would only be used 4 times per year when they tested the site. This waste bothered me then, and I think the traditional PBX purchase model is still very wasteful.
On behalf of this client, and the whole market, I examined other options on the market…and while there were many offerings in the United States, I could not find an offering in Japan that would work for enterprises.
